I realize I haven’t posted in awhile, here’s an update on my end:
The joy of being engaged during the holiday season was wonderful, but sometime mid-January I started feeling more depressed than ever. My life felt overwhelming, and I felt unable to do anything. My anxiety was affecting everything: my physical health, my ability to work, my relationships. Depression is real, and I’m thankful I was able to get past the darkest of dark moments. My fiancé has been my compass, my rock, in these tough times. As have been my close friends and family. Now I embark on a new work-from-home normal, and try to make sense of the anxiety and fears that are out of my control. I am grateful I can turn to my sketchbook in times like this. I’m doing what I can to take care of my mental health, while staying physically healthy and creative.
This has lead to a bit of a reset in my illustration practice. I’ve decided to revisit a forever favorite character of mine: Darwin. This little fella has had a human copilot, and countless artworks feature his face. I’ve begun to develop his backstory even more, and come to realize he’s a detective. Still an adventurer, but seeking truth rather than the extraordinary. Fitting as his namesake Charles Darwin sought out answers too. I’ve given Darwin a bird friend, an owl I’m naming Emmy (did you know Charles Darwin’s wife was named Emma?) Looking for feedback, and possible detective missions for him to solve. The sillier the better! .
